Repurposing Old Sweaters

Did you know your dog can be a carrier for wool-eating moth larvae?  I do now.  And I have a stack of sweaters ready for recycling into something greater than the sum of their holes.  So many talented crafters use old sweaters as their raw material.

These cozy slippers are in the pool, too.

Crispina used sweaters and blankets to reupholster a chair.

Kris at Resweater is all about recycled wool. She made these mittens from Merino sweaters; she also collects and sells sweaters for upcycling here.

The plan for my collection—a cable knit grey one, a nice medium blue, green and purple pullovers, is to take them apart, then piece them together in new ways into a throw rug. The first step is to felt the sweaters by washing them in hot water, then tumbling in the dryer to make the wool fibers more compact and durable.
