Kudos to Nadeau for bringing this small-space friendly piece to market. It’s less than a ruler in width and 53″ long, so there are lots of possibilities where it can fit in–in the hall, a bedroom sized dining room or on the back side of a couch. Then, when you have a free Saturday night, you can do some rearranging and see where else it might work.
Here it is in my entryway. Along the wall, two ribbon upholstered ottomans are ready to go for the August 22 Vintage Bazaar.
Steps to to the table’s new color:
The before– as found in the alley.
I thought there was too much detail going on, so I took off the molding on the front of the drawers with a hammer and chisel. I also took off the double handles and filled in the holes with plastic wood. After that, ten minutes of overall sanding, and a coat of primer. I used a basic spray primer by Rustoleum.
The final paint coat is a custom color. From the basement archives, I mixed some orange latex with a drop of leftover red by Ralph Lauren. Both were a satin grade, so that worked out nicely and I have one less can of paint on the shelf.
When the paint has fully cured – round about October with the midwest humidity – I’ll do a sealer coat of water based polyurethane.

It looks great.
Will the sealer coat make it shiny? or just a layer of anti-chip protection?
The alleys are chockful I noticed. People must be gearing up to move. A crib, end table, (plastic) storage thing, dresser all within a block. Scavenged 2 small solid wood bookcases.

Perfect! wow, love it. I too have a narrow (10″) deep table my father had had made for me to fit our New York apartment, and it has been one of the most versatile, useful pieces through the years.
But this red is just great: a really eye catching piece…

Lucky you on the bookcases, Tess. I plan to do a drive-by of Rogers Park over the weekend. Re: the shiny finish—yes, I think shiny’s the way to go, too.
