Listening to NPR one morning, there was an interview with Rowan LeCompte, the designer of fifty stained glass windows in as many years for the Washington National Cathedral in D.C.

The reporter asked Rowan if, working in such an awesome space, he was a religious person. Rowan answered by saying that he believed in kindness and love, and to him that was a form of worship.

Not being a very religious person, I think of that interview often and wonder about Rowan’s philosophy.  It sounds simple, but, especially the kindness part, can be a huge challenge some days.  Coming from a man who witnessed the sun streaming through stained glass for fifty years though, perhaps there’s something to it.
