SoHo So Good

This is such a cool project by Blu Dot, the furniture design and manufacturing company in SoHo, I would love for it to happen in Chicago, too.  Blue Dot has dropped 25 chairs around places in NYC, free for the taking.  Many of them are GPS enabled so we can watch what’s happening to them in real time. Of course, if I happened on one of the chairs, especially on a curb or in the alley, the GPS trail would lead straight to my house, then stop.  It’s in my blood, what can I say.

You can follow the Blu Dot chairs’ travels on the map posted on the Real Good Experiment project’s website. Then, for more news on their progress, the chairs themselves are Twittering, and you can view their positions on Flickr.

I love this experiment.  It reminds me of something my husband and I did a few summers ago.  We rescued four plastic patio chairs when a neighbor put them in the garbage.  On consecutive nights, we arranged the chairs in a circle, line or in the four corners of the open field park across the street.  We did this for a week until one night the chairs disappeared.  We imagined them put to good use in someone’s backyard, same as the Really Good chairs.

Thanks to Kathy at HomeWorkshop.com for sending me this great story!
