For Project Runway night, this was a fitting project. Sorry for that.
Since this little book of iron-on transfers was published last year, it’s been on my to-do list to check it out. Coming across it at the art store this week was serendipitous for this week’s makeover. The plan: add some surface decoration to a grey knit dress. The dress was free, in a box in and on its way to the thrift store before I plucked it out from my friend’s donations. This was my chance to add a little fashionista to a recessionist outfit.
The Sukie transfers are adorable—foresty and curious. (FredFlare.com has an interview with the authors/artists here.) The designs would look good on any light colored bag or t-shirt. Not one to follow the rules exactly, I wanted to see how they’d work on the dark dress.
Here’s the result, not so successful and looking a little like I spilled a cup of coffee. Too much recessionista and not enough fashion. If you ironed the transfers on a pair of dark jeans, they’d probably come out looking faint at first, too, though as the denim faded over time the results might be cool.
Four stars for the transfer book, though. They’re really easy to use, all you need is a hot iron and a hard surface, and they’re are plenty of designs left in my book. A lot of design possibilities for $10.
